NEP_Hisham_KerisI saw this at MageP’s Lab.

A keris is a dagger? A bladed weapon? A sword? A feudal symbol of struggle? Am I getting this right? No one should be afraid of someone brandishing a weapon?

I thought a pen was mightier than a sword? I thought words had more efficacy than violence? What meanings are now imputed in the words “Malay struggle”? Defense, offense, the struggle to survive?

Or better! “Violence, combat, military intervention” here: the phallus and masculinity. For such a small, short sword? I wonder if he knows how funny he looks. I wonder if he’s thinking “I may look funny now, but wait till I bury this in your bowels..”. The thought doesn’t keep me awake at night, it makes me want to fart in his general direction. I thought we were done with circus clowns? I thought quite a tidy sum was spent on his education? Is this the best he could come up with? A phallic symbol for a failing flagstaff? Is this sword-waving viagra’s political equivalent?

“If the community (Chinese) is still afraid of the keris, then, I believe they are not able to compete in today’s globalised world, which is talking about atomic bomb, nuclear and scud missile,” he said.

The sheer irony is lost on Hishammudin. The sheer irony. The wilful ignorance of symbols like the keris is breathtaking; if he brandished a fucking sausage there would be no outcry, by god. A King brandishes his sword in some militaristic declaration, a soldier brandishes his gun in defiance or victory, but a politician brandishing weapons, dear god, is also call to arms.

A call to arms. Someone sort this out for me, please. Who’s he fighting for and what are they fighting for? Independence or ultimate superiority in Malaysia? They way I see it, “they” seem to have both, so why bother getting everyone riled up over some newfangled idea about racial determinism — something, mind you, that’s about more than 30 bloody years old? Who is he rooting for? The unwashed masses? But that’s not possible, him in his pristine traditional getup waving about a sword with some fancy-looking scrollwork, eh? He must be fighting for those who’ve already won, eh? “Let’s get more of the pie next year, too!” he seemed to shout.
