I thought things in Malaysia will tend to lean toward certain responses, mostly due to our government’s tendency to sit on its arse. My post is over here. Have things become depressingly predictable? Maybe not, but we should fear the coterie of geniuses running things here, shouldn’t we?
Maybe it’s time to take stock?
- The IGP or similar high-ranking official will resign for what Opposition politicians, and now BN politicians are characterizing as a National Disgrace.
- A week or two of reactions from around the world will start pouring in, and it will be little wonder if these newsbits are given less air-time or column-space to breathe.
- Depending on the public reaction, BN politicians and, as a given, Opposition politicians will start making broad demands about police reform. I think a mention about the recent Royal Commission report will surface, and demands will arise for speedier implementation.
- The government has sent En Azmi Khalid to China to explain the situation; we will not hear any other news about this.
- This will all be forgotten in about 2 months; just as the problems in Proton were trumped by the AP issue, some other controversy will surface.
Well, no IGP or high-ranking official have been given marching orders, but we should all live in eternal hope. A reprimand from the PM is a marvel to behold, kinda like a sergeant giving orders to his crack troop of hunter-killers (did I say “crack”?). LKS is calling for RM 10.00 deductions off these fellas’ salaries, but I say go the whole hog: a pound of flesh makes less sense than a right whole carcass, I always say.
On the second point: from my calculations, it’s been two weeks now, give or take. We get most of our news from international newsites, so local dailies, for the past few days, have been great fun and a barrel of laughs. Has the news died down, yet? Well, they think so and so do I. Enter cynicism and general bitterness, but we Malaysians are great big pumpkins, so what does everybody expect?
On the third point, well, this did happen and just shortly after the incident broke news. How can we deny politicians the opportunity to trundle out that old hag, the IPCMC? Little plans and committees like the latter usually last a grand total of 3 months or so. Ah, to relive these little calls for action over and over and over again…
On the fourth point, dear God, we’ve had a reversal of sorts haven’t we? Well, yes, we’ve got 100 reporters coming over from China to check out our dear little land. I don’t understand it, but it’s probably a good thing, right? Come over to Malaysia, see the sights, check out the local flesh trade, etc.
It’s not two months yet, but we’ve got a few more weeks before all this becomes so much history, I think. I hope it doesn’t, though.
